Unlock Your Homeland Community: How The Native Goods Connects Immigrant Businesses with Local Expats

It’s interesting that you may have lots of clients from your homeland.

But yet, the way they get to you is not always straightforward.

The truth is, those clients often come through word of mouth, Facebook, or WhatsApp groups.

There is no centralized way for you to advertise your business to your fellow countrymen.

Every time I need to find someone to bake a cake for our kids party, or help us with the decoration, or renovate our deck we go through this same hunt trying to find a homeland that offers this service and that could help us out.

And that’s tough because those who offer the services I’m looking for also have to keep an eye out to let me know they can help with my endeavor, right?

Well, that’s how it used to be until I launched The Native Goods.

I help immigrants gain more visibility for their businesses within their homeland community by connecting them with expats living in their city.

Through The Native Goods, you can create your account and add your business to the platform.

So if you are a Brazilian living in Calgary, Alberta, Canada (which is where I live by the way), you’ll be able to advertise your product, service or business to all Brazilian living in Calgary that is part of the platform.

Here’s what we are currently offering in the platform:

• Free advertisement through in the website
• A Free digital “visit card” if people try to access thenativegoods.com/{your-advertisement-custom-url}
  • You can put that on your Instagram Bio for instance

There are the features we have for now, but we are not stopping there.

In our road map for 2024 we still want to:

1. Create a monthly e-mail listing all services and business from your homeland available for your
2. Create an e-mail marketing so can send an email with offers, discounts and information to your homeland fellows living in the same city as you.

   • Or it might be a good idea to remind your community that it’s time to start yard care for the summer…
   • Maybe you’re hosting an special event so others can attend to…
3. Enable everyone to create events for their homeland community
   • Weekly soccer somewhere and would like to have your community involved? Add your event!
   • Having a yearly barbecue happening and would like to bring everyone together? Go for it!
   • Hosting a Book launch event at the beach? Share it with your community
4. Enable a banner and more pictures for premium advertisements
5. Create a feedback system so we can hear from you how we can help you get in touch with your community

I’m a 37-year-old Brazilian/Canadian/Israeli, married to the most supportive wife ever, and a dad of two amazing kids and a golden retriever. I’ve also been a software engineer for more than 17 years.

I’m creating this platform in my spare time, looking for a way to help immigrants have a better start on their journey by connecting them with homeland businesses, attending events, and getting to know each other. Also, because I love coding, so why not use that to build something amazing for all of us?
